8th Primary School Badminton Comp

Eight schools will be part of the 8th Annual Primary School Badminton Tournament which will begin tomorrow from 9am-2.30pm.

Apii Rutaki, Nikao, Arorangi, St Joseph’s, Takitumu, Aavrua, Te Uki Ou, Paparoa Adventist and Tekaaroa Adventist will all be vying for the top spot.

Badminton president Thomas Mereana-Ngauru says they are now in the last week of the four weeks primary school shuttle time programme for year 4, 5 and 6 students from 8 schools on Rarotonga. 

Over 600 students are taking part in the programme with 128 competing in the tournament

“Then Friday we have our 8th Annual Primary School Tournament to be held at the National Sports Arena including 4 students from Tekaaroa Adventist in Aitutaki

“Our final event for the year will be our Open national Championships to be held from December 11 to the 14th”

Mereana-Ngauru said they are taking a break over the holidays except for our U15 squad and open squads will continue to train through the festive and will depart first week of February to compete at the Oceania Championships on the North Shore in Auckland

The have thanked CITC (Cook Islands Trading Corporation) one of their major sponsors for the Annual Primary School Tournament as well as Vodafone, Badminton Oceania, BWF (Badminton World Federation) and the schools.
