Events will be track, short, sprints and middle distance runs and the field events of long jump and throws – discus, shotput and javelin.
Online registrations are open and preferred.
Athletics Cook Islands says if circumstances change and you find yourself available to compete then head to the stadium before 8.30am to warm up for a 9am start with the 200 metres open race and women shot-put and men’s long jump for open and masters.
“This is a great opportunity for those who want to showcase their skills they save for Cook Island Games,” ACI said in a statement.
“With CIG on again next year it is a good reminder that there are more medals to be won in Athletics per athlete than any other code.
“With some foresight and planning athletes can benchmark their times and distances on Saturday and then work towards doing some training to improve and better their performance in readiness for the Cook Island Games 2024.”
Also, this year will feature race walking with a short dash 60 metres and a 2 kilometre walk for all those who missed the Round Raro 10km walk “or enjoyed it so much you want to try your skills at a shorter distance and look towards continuing to train towards improving your times for the longer race next year”.
Medals will be awarded on the day. Registrations can be made online https://forms.gle/UTCC6hKCfC62feK67. All the details are on Athletics Cook Islands Facebook page.
