Apii Avarua has done it again, taking home the coveted CITC Prince of Wales Primary Schools Athletic Championship overall trophy.

The school has won the overall champion trophy for 14 consecutive years.

Apii Avarua principal Engia Baxter was humble after retaining the title for the record 14th time at the National Stadium in Nikao yesterday.

“We never come to this event feeling confident that it’s ours. Each year is, always coming in and hoping that we will do better,” said Baxter.

“It’s always coming in with our children, that they are out there to compete and to retain their trophy.”

Apii Avarua student Jayden Angene was “shocked and amazed” to receive the overall senior boys champion trophy.

He competed in the 800 metres, 1500m and relay track events as well as high jump and long jump field events.

Angene said he was happy to have improved in his events compared to last year.

Apii Nikao came in second overall followed by Nukutere College and St Joseph’s in third place. The Most Behaved School trophy went to Papaaroa School.
