Behind the scenes, one of the most remarkable aspects of our clinic is the dedication and selflessness of the veterinarians and veterinary nurses who volunteer their time, expertise, and even their own medical donations.
Volunteers at Te Are Manu often travel from far corners of the world, bringing with them valuable experience, passion, and hearts full of compassion for animals in need. These professionals, accustomed to the demands of modern veterinary practices, choose to set aside their paid work and personal commitments to travel to charity clinics across the Pacific. They do so without any expectation of financial compensation. In fact, our volunteers cover their own flights and living expenses, ensuring that the resources of the clinic are used entirely for the animals.
This act of selflessness demonstrates not only their love for animals but also a deep-seated belief in the power of giving back. Their contributions come at a financial cost, yet they willingly offer their services, understanding the importance of their work for the community and its animals. Without these volunteers, charity veterinary clinics across the Pacific would struggle to operate at the same capacity or provide the same level of care.
Volunteers bring not only their skills but often essential supplies and donations that make an enormous difference in day-to-day operations. These donations can include medications, surgical instruments, medical supplies, and even food for the animals.
At Te Are Manu, we are also very fortunate to have a fantastic team of permanent staff. Our TAM Aunties Pip and Lorraine are the cornerstone to our practice. Many of you will have met them through your visits to the clinic, or even spoken to them on the phone when booking your pets in for appointments. These hardworking ladies ensure the clinic is running smoothly, taking care of our veterinary volunteer team and ensuring the animals are getting the best care possible.
It is impossible to overstate the gratitude felt by the community of Rarotonga for these veterinarians, veterinary nurses and staff. Their commitment to helping animals, despite the personal sacrifices they make, is inspiring and humbling. They are the heart and soul of these charity clinics, without whom the clinics simply could not function at the same capacity.
Be sure to say hello to our fantastic team, as they are often out at the Saturday markets helping fundraise for our furry friends!
