Letter: ‘We have had enough’

Prime Minister Mark Brown has finally found the time to sit down – not with his people, but with New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

In his response to the no-confidence motion, Brown presents himself as a leader under siege, blaming everyone from the New Zealand government to its media, conveniently sidestepping the one question Cook Islanders have been asking all along: When were we consulted?

Brown’s attempt to reframe this debate as one of “sovereignty” and “control” rather than consultation is a political smokescreen. He wants a sit-down with New Zealand, yet has never once granted his own people that same courtesy on critical issues like seabed mining, China’s growing influence, the passport controversy, and water security.

We have had enough.
