Letter: Motorcycle mayhem returns

Readers will recall Andy Olah reporting from his side of the island and an Avarua reader reporting the same thing - the multiple motor bikes on the main road, day and night, in seemingly endless trips, with no mufflers, making misery for those who, literally, have to stop talking until the deaf riders have gone by.

And then, we heard from Police spokesman Trevor Pitt that the Police were finally clamping down. And peace and quiet returned.

But not for long. Just long enough it seems for the Forum Leaders to be spared the noise pollution. Was the clampdown for locals or for the big-wigs? A sceptic might suggest that this was no different than ‘fixing’ the years-long mismanagement of public water on Aitutaki just so the VIPs could wash their armpits after a day in the sun.
How about the Police stop the bike noise this time for the taxpayers who fund the Police?
