As a people grounded in tradition and genealogy, it is vital that all internal disputes be resolved within the family and tribal structure—facilitated by our Ariki—with full transparency, proper consultation, and acceptance of genealogy by all members of the Kopu Ariki o Pa before any investiture is carried out.
Taking these matters to the courts of law may seem like a convenient solution, but it is not the appropriate path. Courts were not designed to resolve tribal or family disputes over traditional titles. When we rely on legal forums to settle such issues, we risk making a mockery of our sacred cultural practices and expose family conflict to public scrutiny, creating lasting divisions.
This situation calls for leadership, maturity, and wisdom—especially from our Ariki. It is essential that Pa Ariki lead with openness, fairness, and respect for all lineages within the tribe, and ensure due process is followed when decisions are made that affect the entire Kopu Ariki.
We must protect the integrity of our traditions. Let us resolve our differences in the right way—through dialogue, unity, and respect—not through the courtroom.
