I urge PM Mark Brown to pause and think about the historic qualities of our flag before changing it.

It is a bad mistake to make critical decisions while enjoying the euphoria and elevated feelings of political success!

Our flag is framed underneath the historic Union Jack, derived from the United Kingdom! This is the same flag that helped the Duke of Wellington defeat Napoleon at Waterloo in 1815, defeat Hitler and the Nazis in 1945 and not so long ago, defeat Argentinians in the Falklands war. Countries like NZ, Australia and the UK still use it. We have used our current for 45 years.

To change our flag back to the C.I.P green and gold is to split the country again. The current flag unites the nation because it belongs to no political party. The green and gold of earlier times is a welcome part of our history. To reverse back to it now is to introduce us back to political apartheid. PM you are not in your position forever. Remember what goes up must come down. All aircrafts in flight must land! You have a good chance to achieve statesmanship! Don’t blow it away. As this is my last letter for the year, my wife and I wish you all a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
