LETTERS: ‘Absurd’ idea to demolish huts

Dear Editor, In response to your article published in Cook Islands News on Monday, 9 May 2022 titled “Plan to move market huts leaves carver ‘angry and disgusted’”.

Don't we need the market to grow? Utilise the existing and future vendors to settle in? The big market day is Saturday, isn't it? For that one day, people can find parking around and nearby the market itself. Just that one busy market day. If it was a full-packed market Monday to Saturday, then a carpark behind the market is warranted.

To remove the huts on the seaward side to give way for a carpark is absurd.

Now listen up, what is wrong with filling up the back with rocks outwards and creating a carpark without interrupting the existing huts/stalls down the seaside? Is this an option?

Please look after your vendors, it’s because of them that you have a market, you move or take one out, and you affect the whole lot.

E manako ua teia no teia Mangaia

Yours Sincerely,

Kimi Nooroa

Plan to move market huts leaves carver ‘angry and disgusted’

Noooooooo - tourists come to the markets for the market huts not to see a car park - we are all capable of parking somewhere else and walking. Don’t destroy the huts or the livelihood of these people! Start a petition and get the tourists to sign it - we will back the locals and NOT a car park.

There's already a huge car park behind these huts. What brings in the $$ the huts or car park? Or let me guess, will start charging for parking hah? Whose genius idea was this?

Violent assault highlights the need to curb re-offending

It shouldn't be earmarked for just the "young people". I believe it occurs in all ages - some victims are afraid to come forward because they live with a narcissist!

The answers to this boy’s problem are with the father. Lock the dad up with him so he can understand or even listen to what this boy needs.

No probation officer, policeman, court sentence, workshop, etc is going to sort this boy and if this boy was given the chance to speak his mind, you'd all understand how simple the answer is.
