The warning issued this week will remain in effect as adverse weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the day, according to the Cook Islands Meteorological Service.
A strong wind warning is still in force for both land and waters of the Southern Cook Islands, including Rarotonga.
High easterly winds, ranging from 20 to 30 knots with gusts up to 35 knots, are expected to cause rough seas and heavy swells.
Damaging swells of up to 4.5 metres are predicted for the waters, while coastal areas are at risk of sea flooding, particularly during high tides.
In addition to the strong winds and swells, the region will experience occasional periods of rain, heavy at times, and squally thunderstorms throughout the day and into the night.
The public is urged to exercise caution, especially along the coastline, where sea flooding may pose a threat during high tide.
The Northern Cook Islands is also under a strong wind warning, with north to northwest winds of 20 to 25 knots, gusting up to 30 knots. While the region may not face the same intensity of swells as the Southern group, rough seas are still expected, with occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The weather is expected to remain unsettled across the entire Cook Islands, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely to continue into the evening.
Both groups should remain vigilant as conditions could worsen at times, according to the bulletin.
Authorities are advising residents and travellers to stay informed of the latest updates from the Cook Islands Meteorological Service and to take precautions, particularly along coastal areas prone to flooding.
