The rain did not deter tourists from exploring the island, and others were seen braving the weather in their raincoats, going about their outdoor chores and activities.
The weather office says the Southern Cooks including Rarotonga is expected to experience more rain and thunderstorms as a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain is affecting the region, with moderate east to north-easterly winds and moderate seas expected.
The forecast remains unchanged for today, with occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms likely.
Meanwhile, the Northern Cooks are experiencing some showers and moderate east to north-easterly winds. Isolated thunderstorms are also expected in the days ahead.
