Rarotonga is expected to experience more rain today, says the Cook Islands Meteorological Service.

Weather office operation manager Manea Bates said Rarotonga recorded a total of 67 millimetres of rain so far. Sunday recorded the highest with 55mm.

Bates also noted that Mauke recorded 58.4mm of rain and Mitiaro 44mm.

Mauke recorded the highest over a 24hr period from Saturday to Sunday.

He added that Penrhyn, in the Northern Group, is also experiencing some showers. The rainy conditions are expected to clear by tomorrow.

Last month, Rarotonga recorded 248mm of rain with the highest rainfall recorded on February 15 at 97.3mm.

Meanwhile, according to the island climate update, El Nino is expected to end in May. The weather pattern typically causes dryness in the east and more rain in the west, with stronger than usual winds.
