On Wednesday in Aotearoa New Zealand thousands of marchers descended upon the city of Auckland on Wednesday as part of the Hīkoi mō te Tiriti (March for the Treaty of Waitangi) to call for Māori unity, and protest a law that seeks to alter the country’s constitutional foundations.

Te Hīkoi mō te Tiriti, has motivated and hit the hearts of Māori in Rarotonga who have organised a peaceful march to be held on Monday.

Chiavanni Le’Mon, organiser of the event, said she was “overwhelmed” by the response she received from the community following her social media post about a hīkoi in Rarotonga.

Tomorrow Sunday 17 November, a special poster, t-shirt and haka workshop will be held at the Ngakau Building (next to Tavioni Gallery, Back Rd Atupa), from 2pm to 5pm.

On Monday, everyone who would like to join the march is asked to be at the Constitution Park in town (opposite Goldmine) at 12 noon.

A karakia timatanga will start at 12.10pm on the seaside lane in town to the Avarua Harbour.
