Opposition Leader Tina Browne has congratulated newly elected United States President Donald Trump encouraging the incoming US administration to strengthen Joe Biden’s Blue Pacific Strategy.

Browne, who is recently attending the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Sydney says she has extended her support for the principles of “peace through strength” as advocated by President-elect Donald Trump.

“Looking toward the Pacific, I encourage the incoming administration to strengthen the Biden Administration’s Blue Pacific Strategy, transforming it from symbolic policy into an actionable commitment.

“Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like the Cook Islands stand to benefit from more focused support in areas such as climate resilience, sustainable economic growth, and strengthened regional security.”

She said they would like an enhanced U.S. partnership that respects unique challenges and aspirations, supporting the Cook Islands as they address climate change, a critical issue for the Pacific.

“The Pacific region and the Cook Islands are prepared to work alongside the U.S. in building a future defined by peace, stability, and mutual prosperity.

“Strong American leadership can be instrumental in achieving this shared vision, and we look forward to the incoming administration’s dedication to both our region and the global community.”

She said that in light of the devastating conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, it was imperative that strong leadership was directed towards restoring peace, saving lives, and fostering global stability.

“The Cook Islands, like many nations, feels the economic strain caused by these crises, particularly through the rising costs of goods linked to disrupted supply chains. Decisive actions by the U.S. to resolve these conflicts will help alleviate inflation and reduce the cost of living for all Cook Islanders.”
Browne added that Iran’s recent war posturing against Israel poses a serious threat to regional stability and it is that the President-elect addresses this with firm and decisive action to promote peace and security. “Such stability is crucial, not only for the Middle East but also for the economic prosperity that directly impacts nations worldwide.”
