Apii Nikao Parents Teachers Association has launched the “Walk a Mile with A Smile” initiative to bring the school and the wider community together in a positive and healthy experience.

The school will be hosting the “Walk a Mile with A Smile” fundraiser tomorrow from 7.30am at the Social Centre with a lively dance warm-up by the popular CC Tamure group.

Since it’s the King’s Birthday public holiday on Monday, June 3, the theme of the walk is “Royal”.

Participants are urged to dress in their regal best for the opportunity to win best dressed and spot prizes, and join in the fun and activities.

The family fun walk will start at 8am towards Blackrock. There are two options the 3 kilometre or the 5km distance.

Michael Mokai, principal of Apii Nikao, said: “The focus is on people collectively getting out and doing some exercise, having some healthy fresh fruit, drinking water and having the opportunity to have Te Marae Ora health checks whilst having some fun on a Saturday morning.”

This is the second year of the event, which is intended to run annually.

There will be sausage sizzles selling for $3, water stations available, and free Te Marae Ora health checks.

A gold coin donation is appreciated, or $5 per family and $10 for corporate sponsors and teams.
