Cook Islands Breast Cancer Foundation is delighted to announce that the Ribbons of Hope: Early Detection Ball will now be held at the picturesque Tamarind House on Saturday, November 30.

This last-minute venue change was prompted by unexpected advice from the Liquor Licensing Authority, which required a special licence in addition to the original venue's existing licence. Without this additional licence, guests would not have been permitted to consume alcoholic drinks at their tables under the marquee.

The process, involving a mandatory two-week public notification period, could not be completed in time for the ball, despite the event being planned in good faith by the foundation's volunteer team.

President Jaewynn McKay expressed gratitude to Tamarind House for stepping in at short notice:

“We’re incredibly thankful to Tamarind House for their generosity in hosting the ball, allowing us to keep this important fundraiser on track. The venue’s beauty and charm will ensure a memorable evening for everyone.”

The Ribbons of Hope Ball is a crucial fundraiser supporting breast cancer screening for women across the Cook Islands. Funds raised will help provide flights for women from the pa enua to Rarotonga to access mammography services. With a new screening machine arriving soon, the foundation is preparing to address a backlog of over 1900 women awaiting breast cancer screenings.

The foundation acknowledges the challenges posed by regulatory processes but remains committed to its mission and is grateful to the many businesses, volunteers, and supporters who make this event possible.
