Petrol and diesel prices remain steady in the latest Price Order, the first for 2024.

The new Price Order released by the Price Tribunal came into effect on Sunday, January 20.

The wholesale prices for petrol remain unchanged since the November 20 Price Order, at $2.80 per litre. Diesel sees a slight increase from $2.83 to $2.87, and LPG is up by $0.02 per litre, sitting at $4.13.

The maximum allowable retail price for petrol to consumers in Rarotonga stays at $3.08. In Aitutaki, it has dropped by 8 cents to $3.25 per litre, while for the rest of the Southern Group, the retail price remains at the November 2023 price of $3.90. The Northern Group won’t see a change either, at $4.05.

Diesel retail prices either increased or decreased by $0.04 across the Cook Islands.

Rarotonga jumped from $3.11 up to $3.15, Aitutaki decreased from $3.51 to $3.47, Southern group went up to $3.78 with the Northern group now sitting at $3.88 per litre, a $0.04 rise for both groups.

LPG consumers in Aitutaki take the biggest hit with the price jumping 17 cents to $4.81. Rarotonga and the Southern Group are up by $0.02 at $5.08 and $6.95, respectively.

Over the holiday season petrol reserves ran out at Toa Petroleum retailers, but stocks were replenished in the last shipment two weeks ago.

Owner Brett Porter says business is steady: “There’s plenty of fuel on the island and more arriving soon from the tanker sitting offshore.”

“We’re back to life as usual,” Porter said.
