A New Zealand-based Cook Islands entertainment group is on the island and is set to perform tonight in what they say will be a magical night of dining and dancing in Rarotonga.

The Jewels of the Cook Islands have been on the island for over a week and are ready to showcase their talents tonight at The Edgewater Resort and Spa.

The group will be performing at the Dine and Dance Rarotonga event, which will feature a spectacular show and island night buffet, starting at 6pm. Tickets are $70 for adults (ages 11 and over) and $50 for children (ages four to 10).

Jewels of the Cook Islands was founded in 2020 by Briannah Rorani, who said that “the dance group is the only one of its kind in the world”.

The group brings together dancers from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and celebrates the power of cultural fusion and collective artistry. The members of the performing team come from various walks of life, offering a rich form of influences and talents.

Rorani said: “At the heart of our creative leadership is our head choreographer, who proudly represents Samoan heritage. This cultural connection is mirrored in our talented drummers, led by Kimi Tuigamala and Tangi Marsters, both of whom bring a blend of youth and passion to the rhythm of our performances.”

The drummers, some as young as 17, add a dynamic and vibrant energy to the group, blending traditional sounds with modern dance movements.

Rorani said the “the dance group is thrilled to have travelled to Rarotonga for a much-anticipated vacation, and we’re excited to share our passion for dance with the local community”.

“As part of our visit, we’re putting on a special performance for the people of the island, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and the spirit of unity that dance brings.

“It’s an honour to connect with the island’s vibrant traditions while showcasing our own unique style, and we look forward to creating a memorable experience for everyone who comes to watch.”

The group aims to share not only their artistic vision but also the profound cultural stories that inspire each member.
