In presenting the equipment over the weekend to Muri Miss Fits, Vice-President of Mana Tiaki Ngatangiia Vaikai Mataiapo Sonny Daniel said he hoped that the village netball club and women’s cricket teams in Ngatangiia would be encouraged to join the Missfits health and fitness club classes and make the most of the new equipment.
Muri Miss Fits was formed three years ago by Bianca Whittaker, the lead instructor for the group.
Since then, it has consistently provided boxfit, circuit classes and Poolfit mainly for women five days a week but men are welcome too and do join… A number of overseas members also join morning classes via FaceTime.
“Muri Miss Fits is a great space for women of all ages, (with 74 year olds being our inspiration), to feel comfortable when exercising, to challenge themselves to get fitter and stronger to great old school music.
“There is friendship, encouragement and support to work at a level that is comfortable for you,
Coffee after class and monthly get together are optional.
It's all about fun fitness and community and we are making good use of our Ngatangiia/Matavera Club House in the mornings,” said Whittaker.
“We are very grateful for the support from Mana Tiaki Ngatangiia, and of course to the Social Responsibility Fund administered through the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for sponsoring this equipment that we have already started making good use of. Our members are so happy that we now have different types of weights and other strength-building gear to use and benefit from.”
“Muri Miss Fits philosophy is "as long as you’re moving,” so during classes this is exactly what happens.”
