Disney’s beloved characters, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, brought cheer to the annual Tropical Christmas float parade yesterday, drawing a respectable crowd to the festive event.

The Santa Parade started at 4.30pm through town and around the roundabout. It also featured the Pacific Games rugby league 9s gold medallist team.

The float parade was followed by “Late Night Shopping” at the CITC Mainstore Avarua and Vodafone. Vodafone’s Techmas Day will be held from 8.30am to 4pm today, and the ANZ Bank Blue Day will feature a Santa photo corner and lolly stations. The best dressed will receive spot prizes.

The popular Kīnura Music Festival will be held on Sunday, December 10, at Te Are Karioi National Auditorium. Doors will open at 6pm.

There are also a number of events taking place next week including the Rotaract Christmas in the Park event on Thursday at the National Auditorium.

Every year, Rarotonga merchants collaborate to spread the “Island Spirit” throughout the Christmas season.
