Each of the 11 prefects were presented with their badges by one of their parents/guardians, witnessed by their families and Apii Takitumu’s 155 students.
Head Boy, nine-year-old Josef Urirau, and Head Girl Amarah Gribble both expressed that they were excited and nervous to be selected for the top roles.
Gribble said: “I felt excited and nervous at the same time.”
“I’d like to be a good role model to the children and try to make my parents proud.”
On behalf of the prefects, Gribble acknowledged the school teachers.
“It is an honour to be prefects, and we will aim to be good role models,” she said.
Principal Maui Joseph encouraged the parents, guardians, and the community to share positively with their children and to provide them with an optimistic and caring environment.
“As a community, I believe that we should all come together and help our children,” she said.
Students started back at school on January 24, while the teachers had “Teacher Only Days” from January 19 to 23.
