A pair of tourists sustained injuries in a motorbike crash at the Nikao Seawall on Tuesday night, police reported yesterday.

In statement, police said the tourists were on the way home to their accommodation when the driver reportedly failed to take the bend near Super Brown.

“The Sea Wall is Rarotonga’s most notorious stretch of road.  This region of Nikao has claimed the most significant number of road fatalities over the past dozen years or more,” police said.

“Residents and tourists have been killed on the road at the Sea Wall.  All drivers, particularly motorcyclists, should keep their speed down and focus on the curving bends, which can be deceptive.”

Police also said tourists are less likely to be involved in a crash on Rarotonga than residents, although that probability can shift with higher volumes of traffic and increased visitor numbers on the road.
