Police spokesperson Trevor Pitt said the motorbike was reported stolen and later found abandoned at Terevete Park in the weekend.
And another bike that was taken on April 22 has been found, Pitt confirmed.
In an earlier report, police said April recorded the highest number of reported stolen motorbikes in more than six years. The number of motorbikes reported unlawfully taken during the month was 16. The next monthly high was 15, back in September 2018.
Foreign worker Shast Tolentino, whose motorbike was reported missing in February, had given up hope of recovering it.
Stolen motorbikes are less likely to be recovered, Pitt said last week, adding “Based on past figures, there is a less than 50 per cent chance of recovery.”
Tolentino has been searching for his bike since February 21, after it was reported stolen from Avarua in front of the South Seas shop around 11pm.
Yesterday, he told Cook Islands News that his bike cost him $4000. He said finding transport to work especially during night shifts had not been easy.
“You know how hard the transport in the island is, without your personal bike, especially working at night time, it is not easy.”
Tolentino said his fear is that the longer his motorbike remains missing, the more likely it is that it has been dismantled and possibly shipped to another island for parts.
In his home country, Tolentino said they have alarms installed on the bikes, and that could be something to consider in Rarotonga.
Other matters reported to the police over the weekend include two assaults, one of which resulted in an arrest, with the suspect remanded.
There was also a report of tourist losing a bag with valuables such as large amounts of cash, cards, jewellery, iPhones, and earbuds in Muri.
Pitt says this is a suspected theft case.
Other incidents reported over the weekend included a dog bite attack, two minor motor vehicle crashes, a noise complaint, and a domestic disturbance.
