Cook Islands Police Service completed its final round of training under the Officer Safety Pacific initiative, supported by New Zealand Police last week.

Police media stated that the programme has secured the training of 13 Police Trainers and nearly all sworn Officers.

The past two weeks saw the graduation of the last groups to undergo the sessions to improve Police capabilities in tactical options for dealing with offenders.

The underpinning principle of Officer Safety Training is to ensure the safety of the public and offenders when facing a variety of incidents. Improved skills in assessing the options available to them, keeps Police safe as well as the community.

Those graduating recently were S/Sgt. Teinaki Howard, Sgt. Colin Matangaro (Maritime), H/Const. Edward Marsters (Palmerston Police), Police Recruit Ataela Ataela (Maritime), Snr. Const. Alfred Marsters (Aitutaki Police), S/Sgt. Kauariki Henry (Aitutaki Police), Const. Diana Tschan. The Police Trainers, who have been roundly praised for their skills and efficacy throughout, were Const.Tekea Akava, Const. Kotimoa Yakilia and Aporo Kirikava.
