Carrying the message of Good Friday
On Good Friday yesterday, Avarua St Joseph’s cathedral worshippers gathered at the Ministry of Justice Court House where they began to walk the 14 Stations of the Cross through town towards the cathedral. MELINA ETCHES/22041501

Due to the Covid-19 Te Marae Ora restrictions a small number of the St Joseph’s Cathedral worshippers gathered at the Ministry of Justice Court House at 9am where they began to walk the 14 Stations of the Cross through town towards the cathedral.

The devotional exercise of visiting and praying in front of each of the 14 stations represents a significant moment when Jesus walked to Calvary Hill to be crucified.

At every station, songs of praises to the Lord are sung, specific prayers are recited and individuals recall and meditate on a specific event from Christ’s last day before moving onto the next station.

For Christians, the death and resurrection of Christ is one of the most significant dates on the Christian calendar celebrated over the Easter weekend.
