The Australian High Commission has announced the opening of the Australia – Cook Islands Community Grants Program.

The Australia – Cook Islands Community Grant Program is a flexible small-grants programme that supports local projects that help reduce poverty and promote sustainable and inclusive development. The initiative aims to align with both Australia's national interests and the Cook Islands’ National Sustainable Development Agenda goals.

Since 2021, the Australian High Commission has proudly supported a range of initiatives through this programme, including:

•           Essential repairs to Rarotonga’s Creative Centre;

•           Foreshore erosion mitigation at Avana Stream with Te Ipukarea Society;

•           Tools for building skills workshops in Mangaia; and

•           Training resources for teachers in the Pa Enua with the Cook Islands Dyslexia Society.

Australian High Commissioner to the Cook Islands, Phoebe Smith said: “I am delighted to announce the launch of a new Australian High Commission Community Grants Program (ACCGP).”

“Australia is committed to a shared, prosperous, and stable future with the Cook Islands and our broader Pacific region. We value opportunities to work with local communities to support initiatives that foster resilience, health, and long-term sustainability.

“Australia’s continued support for the Cook Islands beyond its ODA-graduation in 2020 is an important demonstration of our tangible commitment to our bilateral relationship, formally known as the Cook Islands - Australia ‘Oa Tumanava partnership.

“The Australian High Commission deeply values the partnerships formed through this grants program. We encourage all individuals and organisations working to make a difference in their communities to apply.”
