After the exhilarating Airport Runway experience on Tuesday afternoon, Airport Authority Cook Islands (AACI) got back into gear early yesterday morning for the official opening of their Market Days.

A few hundred visited the Market Days throughout the day at the airport carpark to celebrate Rarotonga International Airport’s 50th anniversary.

Twenty-four vendors have a wonderful array of colourful crafts, pareu garments, coconut oil, scented oil, pearl and shell jewellery, fresh and everlasting ei on display, ready to be purchased. They also offer a selection of delicious food, including hearty island meals.

Island tunes from a live band and a stunning cultural show by Mona Taio and her team of CC Tamure ladies entertained patrons, enhancing the feel-good atmosphere.

Today, from 8am to 1pm, is the Airport Market International Day to acknowledge and celebrate the diverse culture and nations who arrive at the airport gateway.

Participants will have the opportunity to win fantastic prizes including $200 cash in each category, and prize vouchers from esteemed airport partners – CIC Ocean Research Limited, Te Rito O Taku Peu Tupuna, Vonnias, Vodafone, Island Craft, Air New Zealand merchandise packs, and Edgewater Island Night Dinner for two vouchers.
