Numangatini Ariki of Mangaia, Tangitamaiti Tereapii, attended the ceremony where over 51 workers from both the CITC Building Centre as well as Excil Shipping gathered to mark the celebration.
The Mangaia committee, responsible for coordinating the island’s 60th Constitution Day participation, and the Avarua CICC Pastor attended the event.
Numangatini Tangitamaiti Ariki gifted the organisation a significant adze that held personal importance, as it was part of his ordination ceremony.
It was a symbol of his appreciation.
Excil Shipping manager Maru Apera said, “The King’s presence was a highlight of the occasion, and he was visibly touched by the turnout and enthusiasm of the attendees.”
Apera said that the adoption of the Island of Mangaia and the commemoration of Constitution Day signalled the commencement of a significant celebration for CITC Building Centre and Excil Shipping, as they prepare to mark 60 years of the Cook Islands’ self-government.
“The event was a heart-warming display of community spirit, with all staff members in attendance, wearing their uniforms, and joining in the celebration. It was a beautiful ceremony that set the tone for the upcoming festivities and fundraising activities."
The adze, gifted by Numangatini Ariki, will be displayed at the Excil Shipping office for a short period, until the Building Centre constructs a proper casing for it.
Each of the nine divisions of CITC adopted an island for the 60th celebrations. For instance, the CITC Avarua Shopping Centre adopted Mitiaro and the Avarua CITC administration adopted Atiu.
