The Enuamanu Youth Council, which is hosting Maoate until March 21st, says that this is an opportunity for their community and youth to connect, learn and be inspired.
“Miss Cook Islands visit to Atiu is to empower and uplift our youth, sharing her journey to inspire confidence, resilience, and cultural pride,” the Council said. “Through mentorship and community engagements, she will encourage our young people to pursue their dreams, embrace their identity, and strive for success.”
The New Zealand-based Maoate, who was born in Aitutaki, arrived in Atiu on Monday. She was greeted with a special turou and a prayer ceremony, symbolising the deep respect and unity of the island, the youth group stated.
She later met with the Atiu Island Government executives and the Atiu community hosted a kaikai in her honour.
According to the Enuamanu Youth Council: “One of the most touching moments of the visit was the sharing of Ngatepaeru’s genealogy, tracing her lineage through her grandfather, the late Sir Terepai Maoate.”
“This revelation confirmed her deep-rooted connection to Atiu, affirming that she is not just a visitor, but a granddaughter, daughter, niece, and sister to her Atiuan family. The discovery brought joy and pride to all present, further strengthening the bonds between Miss Cook Islands and the people of Enuamanu.
“Her visit marks a significant moment for Atiu, celebrating culture, heritage and the empowerment of young leaders. As she continues her journey, the people of Atiu stand behind her with pride.”
On Tuesday, Maoate joined Ingo Fitness with Tutapu, and on Wednesday, she participated in a Round-the-Island Photoshoot, ending with a sunset talk session at Taunganui Harbour.
Under the Miss Cook Islands Pageant Association (MCIPA), Maoate represented the Cook Islands at the 38th Miss Pacific Islands Pageant held in Honiara, Solomon Islands in February. She finished as fourth runner-up.
