Cook Islands Trading Corporation (CITC) general manager Gaye Whitta confirmed that all their Christmas supplies arrived on the last voyage in November, as per usual.
Whitta added that December deliveries are primarily backup stock for January trading.
“Any gaps in stock are air freighted where we can.”
Whitta also confirmed that there are no critical shortages of essential products for this festive season.
“There will be enough stock so that everyone can have a great Christmas.”
Daniel Forsyth, managing director Prime Foods, said their supermarket is also fully stocked.
Forsyth said they have many specials available during the festive season with lots of giveaways and prizes for valued customers.
Shipping delays and cancellation caused by bad weather had put Aitutaki’s Christmas plans on hold last year, but this year all cargo vessels have been on schedule, with another one due at the end of the year.
John Baxter of Baxter’s Water World Aitutaki said that the latest cargo vessel, carrying 40 or so containers of goods, left the island on Monday, following the previous vessel’s delivery of 36 containers.
“It’s much better than last year,” Baxter said. “Everyone’s gearing up for the busy shopping days this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before we go on Christmas break.”
“It’s a bit quiet now, but we expect a surge of families and visitors this Friday and Saturday to spend the festive season on the island.
“Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”
