The 2024 marlin season has launched a splendidly impressive start to the New Year with the landing of an awe-inspiring 215 kilogram (473 pounds) black marlin.

Angler Paul-luiz Van Eijk and his crew Daniel Taokia hooked the monster fish outside of Kiikii in Tupapa on Tuesday.

Van Eijk was absolutely thrilled to land his heaviest fish to date. “I was super-excited, this is my first marlin over 100 kilos,” he said, adding that the battle with the fish lasted for just over two hours.

Van Eijk usually goes out fishing once a week on his boat Maine Mama and is looking forward to more great fishing experiences this year.
