Landholdings Ltd, the contractor of the new bridge, has advised in a public notice that the road closure will be “for public health and safety for the construction of the new bridge”.
The new temporary by-pass bridge has a design capacity of 50-ton loading; however precautions will be implemented with regards to heavy loaded trucks to reduce speed when crossing the by-pass bridge.
The work on the Empire Bridge is divided into five stages. The first two were completed last year – the temporary support system to the old bridge and the temporary bypass bridge.
In late November 2021, work resumed on the Empire Bridge following the approval of the environment impact assessment (EIA) for stages three to five.
