Cook Islands Climate Change director Wayne King says the workshop aims to build capacity of the Aitutaki community in proposal writing under the various climate change projects.
King said it focuses on community ideas that relate to climate change rationale, adaptation and mitigation.
According to Climate Change Cook Islands, the workshop is the first of many that will be conducted for local communities.
The workshop is part of Climate Change Cook Islands’ efforts to work together and build a climate-resilient Cook Islands.
The second day of the workshop yesterday focused on project concepts and completing small grant climate change proposals.
King said they focused on climate change adaptation proposals from the participants and consultations.
“Each of the groups were given small grant proposals to complete to be submitted for vetting approval and implementation for those approved. The Climate Change team went through the proposals and explained the climate rationale, providing hands-on upskilling to the participants,” he said.
“It is imperative to build the capacity of our communities in proposal writing and to include their ideas in national proposals.”
