Apii Nikao began this year’s enrolments in January with 339 registered students. However, due to an average of six to eight enrolments a week, as of this week, the roll number has jumped to 389 students.
Yesterday, students, parents and families, adorned with an incredible amount of beautiful ei, gathered to celebrate the induction of their 20 prefects.
The prefects will undertake traditional roles, helping staff with positive behaviour management, organise events, represent the students and the school, assist with school operations, and promote a positive school culture.
Head boy Tamangaro Pana said: “This year, what I look forward to most about being a student leader is to be able to help the younger students, represent our school proudly and become a better leader.”

Tamangaro’s proud parents, Matangaro (mother) and Teokotai Pana, were both overwhelmed with joy to witness their son in a leadership position.
“He is our number five child, and we are so proud of him,” said his father, Teokotai.
Head girl Lian Chan said her focus is to support the teachers and principal and to ensure that all students feel safe at school.
“I need to be a positive representative of our whole student body, and I’m looking forward to learning how to deal with the pressure of responsibility,” said Chan.
Apii Nikao principal Michael Mokai said the student leaders serve as role models, leaders and mentors, upholding the values of the school with integrity and dedication.
“We know that their commitment to excellence will inspire and guide their peers, ensuring a positive and supportive environment for all,” Mokai said.
