Cook Islands Police arrested four people over the long Easter weekend, but say it’s an improvement from past festive weekends.

Police arrested four people since Good Friday for road related incidents.

In a statement yesterday, police spokesperson Trevor Pitt said one of those arrested involved a motorcyclist, who was the subject of complaints for stunt driving and speeding.

“Over a couple of days, the driver was eventually located and charged with two counts of dangerous driving. He was remanded into custody to appear in court this coming week,” Pitt said.

One crash incident was reported 3.12am Sunday morning involving a 19-year-old male smashing into a hedge near Club Raro.

Pitt said Police also responded to noise complaints early Sunday morning, and domestic disturbances, this weekend.

Pitt said this Easter weekend was a big improvement over last year.

“It’s a pity that attitudes on the road continue to be of concern despite lower number of incidents this weekend. Would be nice to someday report an incident-free holiday weekend.

“A small number of individuals unfortunately often mar an otherwise peaceful, and harmonious few days. But relatively good result this Easter, which Police would like to see prevail in the months ahead.”
