A single-vehicle crash in Vaimaanga on Sunday was reported, the latest incident in a weekend that was mostly marked by minor incidents, according to police.
On Sunday afternoon, police were called to an incident in Vaimaanga where a female driver in a rental car collided with a wall.
An ambulance was on site but the driver escaped injury. Police were told the driver fell asleep.
On Friday, two callers reported a dangerous driver, a female, in a black truck - firstly at 12.22pm at Rangiura and again at 4.26pm near the town area. Police are locating the driver.
Police spokesperson Trevor Pitt emphasised that the drivers “shouldn’t really need to be constantly reminded” about driving safe.
“Unfortunately, we seem to be tolerating far too many incidents of carelessness (the major cause of our crashes),” Pitt stated.
“Recklessness on the road is commonplace and many seem to think that road upgrades (to asphalt) is an excuse to speed.”
According to Pitt, there should be no excuse for reckless driving and speeding “as it’s a small island and you’ll still get there”.
“Dire circumstances and an emergency situation may present a different option but generally, driver behaviour is poor,” he added.
Pitt further explained that the Friday complaints of a dangerous driver signify the importance of always reporting such behaviour.
He then urged members of the public to note registration number plates “if possible”, so that police have details or leads to their investigations.
Meanwhile, there were numerous domestic disturbances attended to by police throughout the weekend.
On Monday, an individual also took to social media to share frustrations regarding a stolen bike from Muri, a Blue Honda Wave.
The owner urged: “Anyone with info on this please contact Mii Kauvai on 76949.”
Pitt confirmed that two motorbikes were reported stolen over the weekend – one from Avana overnight and one from Titikaveka around midday on Sunday.
