A 34-year-old man was admitted to the Rarotonga Hospital after he crashed in Muri on Sunday morning. It is a suspected alcohol-related incident.

Police media and strategic advisor Trevor Pitt said a power pole in the heart of Muri would need to be replaced after a car smashed into it early yesterday morning.

He said that the driver called police to report the crash at 4.36am and told police he had fallen asleep at the wheel.

“The driver was admitted into hospital and police have sought a blood specimen for analysis in what is a suspected alcohol-related incident. The main road was cleared of the power pole with help from the public”.

He confirmed that that was the only road incident reported in the weekend, as of yesterday afternoon, along with complaints of excessive noise, a domestic disturbance, and two fights in public on early Saturday morning.

Also a burglary was reported at a Ruatonga residence where a large amount of cash was stolen.
