Cook Islands Police say that investigations into some of the crimes that were reported earlier this year are ongoing.

This includes the Goldmine Store break-in on New Year’s where the glass front door was smashed in and a range of items targeted by thieves, including amber jewellery and gold chains.

The other high-profile investigation is on the narcotics that was discovered in the warehouse of Prime Foods in January this year. In February, Cook Islands News reported that the drugs found were suspected to be heroin and were sent to New Zealand for testing.

There was also no further update on the incident of jet skis being vandalised in Muri last month.

However, for the University of the South Pacific (USP) Cook Islands campus break-in case, Police spokesperson Trevor Pitt said a 15-year-old boy was apprehended. Due to his age, he would likely be subject to a diversionary action.

Pitt added for the other matters, investigations were ongoing depending on available, credible information.

He said: “It’s taking time.”

Meanwhile, over the weekend, Pitt said two drivers were reported to have been dangerously driving.

There was also report of an attempted break-in at a bungalow in Arorangi.

“One bungalow was affected by an unlawful intruder, who was peeping in, trying to break-in. Ran off when the dog barked and chased by a tourist. Suspect wearing a black hoodie.”

Two power poles were struck by motorists, one in Avana and the other in Tupapa.

Pitt said that at 9.11pm on Saturday, a car was reported to have collided with a pole on the back road at Avana. While the car was cleared from the road, the 69-year-old driver was taken to the hospital for a blood specimen analysis.

For the second crash, Pitt said police were alerted at 7.10am on Sunday and Te Aponga Uira network staff had to replace a broken pole on the back road of Tupapa.

He said a resident told Police they’d heard a crash around 10pm Saturday night. The vehicle had taken off but crash wreckage at the scene indicated it was a Toyota.

Police also responded to domestic incidents and an underage driver.
