Goldmine break-in investigation ongoing
A video of the crime scene shared on Facebook indicates the perpetrators may have gained entry by smashing the double-paned, 10-millimetre toughened glass door before stealing amber jewellery, gold chains, and bracelets from Goldmine. 24010209

Investigations into the break-in at the Goldmine jewellery shop in Avarua are still ongoing, police confirmed yesterday.

The alleged incident, categorised as a “smash and grab burglary” more commonly associated with overseas than Rarotonga, occurred early on New Year’s Day on Monday.

The Goldmine owner declined to comment, referring all inquiries to the police. Cook Islands News understands the shop is currently calculating the extent of the loss and pursuing an insurance claim.

Police spokesperson Trevor Pitt also reported another break-in on Tuesday night at a local hostel, where cash was stolen from an occupant.

Furthermore, investigations are still underway regarding an alleged assault that occurred on Saturday, December 23, at the Hula Bar.

The alleged victim, reportedly an international league player, sustained injuries. Pitt stated that the case remains open and under investigation.
