Police media officer Trevor Pitt says all drivers have had blood analysis done, and whether these are alcohol-related will be determined in the coming days. Therefore, no arrests have been made for drunk driving.
On the Sunday crash, Pitt said police were called at 10.33pm, and the male driver was taken to hospital for a blood test.
He said this crash puts the current monthly total at 12.
Pitt said: “In order to meet the 2022 annual total of crashes, the monthly average need only reach 17-18.”
For the other crashes, two blood tests have been sought, including a late-morning incident on Sunday at Matavera where a pickup truck smashed into a power pole.
Pitt said reported crashes are occurring at a monthly average rate “very much the same as 2022”.
He said that for the remaining three months of this year, these road incidents are expected to reach last year’s total of 218.
