Woman admits assault
Cook Islands High Court. 24050916

A woman who assaulted a staff member at Trader Jacks, has pleaded guilty to common assault despite the fact she had apologised with remorse, to the victim after the incident.

Ngatamaine Ona appeared in the High Court yesterday before Justice of the peace Nadine Newnham.

Ona told the court she wanted to make a plea yesterday as she is planning to fly to New Zealand this Saturday for a family obligation, hence why she pleaded guilty.

She was then fined with a $50 court fine and another $50 for court costs.

The incident happened on October 14, where Ona told the victim that she was adding too much oil to the pasta and as they continued to argue over that, the defendant was upset and held the victim’s mouth.

The victim then pushed the defendant’s hand away and the defendant walked away. The victim was later uplifted by police and interviewed.

There was no hospitalisation of the victim as required and other mitigating facts are, an apology was made with remorse, an early guilty plea was made,
