A repeat offender was back in court for a common assault charge last week. Okirua Manuela was charged with common assault, accused of assaulting a man in Avatiu on May 1.

Manuela, represented by defence lawyer Norman George, admitted to the charge.

He was granted bail on the conditions of not to enter any liquor licence premises except for restaurants, not to purchase or consume alcohol, not to offer violence and not to contact the victim.

A probation report was ordered for his sentencing on August 19.

Katuke Jr Katuke will be sentenced on August 19 after he admitted to a charge of excess blood alcohol and careless driving.

The Court heard that on June 16, Katuke drove a truck carelessly in Nikao, a public road.

His excess blood alcohol reading was 266.1 milligrams of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 50mg.

On a separate matter, he also admitted to a charge of assault with intent to injure. This incident occurred on March 29 this year. Manuela is accused of assaulting the victim by punching and repeatedly pushing them against the wall.

Salote Rerealoa admitted to two counts of careless driving causing injury through her lawyer Mark Short.

Short explained that the delay in her plea was due to the reparation costs of the damaged motorcycle presented by the victim, which indicated a value higher than a brand-new motorcycle.

The matter has been adjourned to August 30 for a Judge call over.
