Justice of the Peace Vania Kenning presided over a number of matters at the Criminal Court in Avarua on Thursday.

Lucas Kamana, who was previously granted bail after the Court approved that he would reside with the Minister for Corrective Services George “Angene” Maggie, appeared in court with an application for bail variation.

Defence counsel Michelle Tangimama requested a bail variation to allow Kamana to change his residence to Nikao and live with John Nicholas.

She also asked that disclosures be provided to her.

Senior police prosecutor, senior sergeant Fairoa Tararo did not object to the application.

However, he requested for the curfew conditions of 7pm-7am to continue.

This was granted.

Interim name suppression was granted by Justice of the Peace Kenning in a case involving a man accused of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Senior police prosecutor, senior sergeant Tararo did not object to the name suppression.

The matter has been adjourned to September 12.

A woman charged for taking $31 worth of Vodafone top up from the CITC Oasis store was convicted and handed six months suspended sentence.

The court heard that on May 27, police received a theft complaint by a security guard at the supermarket that accused Cheryl Tiaitu of taking $31 top up.

Senior police prosecutor, senior sergeant Fairoa Tararo said she was a first-time offender and had already repaid the $31.
