CITC Supermarket proudly opened its new, spacious chilled and frozen department, aptly named “Igloo” or “Pia Anuanu”, delighting shoppers who streamed through yesterday morning.

The Igloo is bright and spacious, featuring colourful produce displays. It offers plenty of room for shoppers to maneuver their trolley while they shop and explore the extensive selection of frozen and chilled products.

Happy shoppers enjoyed the in-store tastings, giveaways, and specials on offer while marveling at the transformation of the space.

The Igloo’s generous space area with well-displayed fresh produce and products impressed shopper Papa Tonitara Hurutini.

“This is a very good change, a big change, and the new products are very good, manea,” said Hurutini.

Tania Ingaua and Mia Poila were both “definitely happy” with the new shopping space.

“This is great what CITC has done, it is bigger and spacey and there are many more products that are easy to find in these new fridges. It was worth the wait for this to open,” says Poila.

Moe Rauru said she loved the roomy space and layout.

“It is the best, all this nice big space,” she said.

Completely revamped, the area is fully air-conditioned and has new display cases and freezers with designated areas for fresh produce, frozen goods, dairy, butchery, and more.

The old freezer that used to sit in the middle has been replaced with a 25-door freezer.

Jason Burgess, CITC Food Group Manager, said all the effort and work put in over the past year to plan and build this addition is now complete.

“This is great and we can now celebrate for all of us, and we anticipate a wonderful shopping experience for our customers,” said Burgess.

He said the Igloo was a complete team project that involved all of CITC Group, including local builders.

“We’re very happy with how it’s turned out and obviously for the customer aspect, I’m sure they’ll enjoy their experience, and customer feedback has been great.”

The meat department is the area they have expanded on the most and they will look at putting more variety as they go along.

Trevor Clarke, executive chairman of CITC, had the honour of cutting the rauti ribbon to mark the grand opening of the Igloo.
