Tamarind House – compliments to the chef and team

It’s worth every dollar! Situated just on the main road at Tupapa, in Rarotonga, I must say, Tamarind House Restaurant owned by Sue Carruthers never ceases to amaze me.

Welcomed by the friendly staff and positive atmosphere, it’s definitely "a go to" place for families and friends who are looking for a relaxing place to dine and enjoy their meal.

Sitting at any table you will have a wonderful view of the ocean and surroundings.

Tamarind House’s new Executive Chef since June 2022, James Miller, has definitely introduced some new ideas to the menu and has his superb kitchen team cooking up dishes that has their guests going back for more.

The team also continues to implement Robbie Brown’s legacy in providing an innovative and broad range of dishes.

To start the night, we were provided with the Tamarind House Restaurant and Bar dining menu.

The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters. I had pork belly, pickled cucumber, chilli and miso mayo, while my colleague chose the ika mata - marinated fish, coconut, ginger, tomatoes and cucumber.

Ika mata- a traditional raw fish salad commonly made in the Cook Islands. Marinated in lemon juice, with coconut cream. What was unique with this one, it was served with tortilla crisps that complimented the side dish.

While the pork belly was tender and juicy- it was enough to keep us wondering what made it so perfectly tender, sliceable and amazingly tasty. Loved the miso mayo on the side.

They were exquisite.

For the main course we chose the pan seared ocean catch (parrot fish) - fresh turmeric mayo, local root hash, rukau puree, tropical salsa and grilled banana.

Their delicious meals are mouth-watering and it is highly recommended for everyone.

I’d definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who’s looking for a good meal at reasonable prices in town. It would be a perfect place to take your family or friends out to eat. Overall, Tamarind House gets five stars from me – their customer service is phenomenal too! Compliments to the chef for making our night “superb”.
