Coadjutor Bishop Reynaldo Bunyi Getalado m.s.p has been installed as the new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

The significant event occurred during the Solemnity of the Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul church service yesterday morning at the St Joseph’s Cathedral.

The outgoing Bishop Paul Donaghue SM. concluded his last service as Bishop of Rarotonga with the exchanging of chairs with Bishop Getalado m.s.p.

Father Freddy Kaina had the honour of presenting Bishop Getalado with his “tokotoko” representing the shepherd’s staff, beautifully carved by Vainekiki Tomokino.

Over five hundred Catholics attended the historic event.

Bishop Getalado was ordained coadjutor bishop at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on April 27 in the presence of Father Giosuè Busti, the first deputy-head of mission at the apostolic nunciature of the Holy See in Wellington and representative of Pope Francis.
