Tuesday 16 September 2014 | Published in League

Halifax have signed the Cook Islands front rower Adam Tangata on a two year deal.Tangata, who plays for NRL giants Canberra Raiders’ feeder club Mount Pritchard Mounties and has also played for the Raiders’ under 20s side, is due to arrive in England in November. The 23 year old, who represented his country in last year’s World Cup, is the club’s first overseas signing since Australians Luke Branighan and Dylan Nash joined from Gateshead in 2010.The recruitment of Tangata, who was watched by the club’s former half back Gavin Clinch, pre dates the exit of the club’s former coach Karl Harrison.“I had interest from a Super League club and a few top championship clubs, but Halifax really sold the club and its ambitions to me,” said Tangata, who is rumoured to be the first of a number of imports lined up for next season.“I’m looking forward to helping the club secure a top four place.”“Adam is an outstanding international athlete,” said Croad.“Gavin highly recommended we sign him and we will announce other signings in due course which will emphasise the fact we are firmly on track for 2015.”
