The National Tangaroa Sailing Vaka Champs got under way last Saturday after excitement mounted over the days leading up to the event as sailors and officials checked and re-checked their vaka and the weather forecasts with wind limits appearing to be marginal for the fast and tender racing outrigger canoes designed and mostly built by Thomas Koteka.
