Badminton comp to play-offs

It was the clash of the badminton titans last Thursday when competition leaders Ride Rarotonga took on BeaNga led by Ngaoa Ranginui. Talented young Amber Mateariki of Team BeaNga was definitely up for the challenge showing great skill winning both her ladies and mixed doubles matches. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as Ride Rarotonga were eventual victors 109-99 and therefore taking out top spot for the round robin competition.And despite a tough battle with The Cooks and BeaNga, Team L.AM.J under the leadership of their very determined captain Ahkim Tikaroa were able to hold onto their third place spot on the table. But with Team Telecom gaining in momentum and nipping at the heels of the top three teams there is still a chance the table could be turned.Telecom ladies pairing still remain undefeated as well as Ride Rarotonga’s mixed combination of Eric & Ira and The Cooks men’s pairing.There are two weeks left in the competition with teams all vying for the coveted ‘Ray Marsters Memorial Trophy’ generously sponsored by his family on the Island of Palmerston. Other generous sponsors are Highland Paradise and The Pearl Lounge.The badminton playoffs will begin tonight and all teams are encouraged to please be on time at the Princess Anne Hall at Tereora where spectators are most welcome to check out the action.
