Calling all music lovers…

Rarotonga’s Vinyl Revival Club will host a night of 60s, 70s and 80s music, on Saturday, November 14. All music will be played on vinyl, complete with crackles and all, just like the olden days. Club co-founder and musician Ian Wheldon says the music will be a great mix of ’60s pop, soul and Motown, ’70s disco and classic ’80s pop. “We kick off at 8pm and finish at midnight. Entry costs a gold coin donation, the proceeds of which go to the Creative Centre. The focus is on having a good time on the dance floor. The music will be classic oldies all the way, with “DJ Wheelie” spinning the tunes. “For those who need a little lubrication to get on the dance floor we have a special offer of three stubbies for $10. The location is Boogies Bar, Banana Court, Avarua. The Vinyl Revival Club started when Ian and partner Clare bought a record player for The Cafe so people could browse through the records and play anything they liked. “It proved very popular, with people who had records they had not heard for years bringing them into play. Some were kind enough to give us their old records as their players have long since ‘died’. “We have bought a few collections belonging to locals too and have ended up with great selection of all kinds of music. “We’ve even got a few local albums from Cook Islands artists such as Will Crummer from the ’70s and’80s, so we might sneak a track or two in on the night.”
